[ Yes, that explains it entirely. Childermass may not be as vague with his own fortunes as the Starlight, but he can't exactly claim the cards are straightforward, either. Hence, he takes this seriously and that's why the Ringmaster is getting a most disapproving scowl right now. ]

Who created the Blue Rose?

[ He asks that over trying to defend the Starlight. Chances are she doesn't care if people call her a looney. ]

[She rolls her eyes, and waves a hand.]

The first Queens of the Summer and Winter Courts. 'In the days before their eternal feud, they combined their efforts to create wonders beyond either's imagining...'

[It sounds like she's quoting something from memory, like a tale she's heard often.]

'Bearing the marks of the Sun and Shade, the Flame and Frost, the Wood and its Rot - these wonders were possessed by both Courts, and neither.'

[atouts]

[ That does put a hole in his first theory, which throws him off for a second or two, but— ]

Could it have been used to create another fae?

[ It has to be connected to the Rose Queen, somehow. It couldn't have been directly involved in the Portland fiasco, seeing the Prince still had it, but there must be some connection! ]

[Now that catches her totally off guard, and she gives him a baffled look.]

What are you on about??

[atouts]

There's only one other Rose I have encountered and that's the Rose Queen. I cannot imagine what else the Starlight might be trying to warn us about.

[ Shimmer had been surprised by magic-created faeblooded being a thing, but if he could exist, why not magic-created fae? ]

[She shakes herself a little, as if trying to shake off confusion. She gives the letter one last dubious look before handing it back to him.]

Well, sure. Any faeish magical source could contribute to the creation of a new fae. All of us are born from the combined magics of our progenitors. If someone had the Blue Rose at the time, I'm sure they could contribute...

But the Blue Rose has been missing from the Courts since the Prince fled eons ago! That was before even I had my time in the sun.

[atouts]

[ Taking the letter back, he folds it and tucks it away inside his vest. ]

Do you have any idea if the Rose Queen is older than you?

[ He's guessing yes if she's out conquering worlds for Arcadia or whatever. ]

[She has to pause to consider that.]

Possibly? I had heard of her before I left Arcadia...

It's a little bit hard to tell. Time doesn't exist in Arcadia, at least not in a traditional sense.

[atouts]

So it is, at the very least, plausible. [ It doesn't solve the entire mystery, but it gives him something to work on. ] Would you be opposed to me alerting the other supervisors? Perhaps not about the Rose Queen herself but to at least keep an eye out for Summer Court activity. Suspicious plants and the like.

[ Because he's not sure how else they could detect the Rose Queen and her minions, honestly. ]

[She hesitates, frowning, but eventually gives in with a slight nod.]

I suppose... Roses are within the the Rose Queen's domain, so I guess they could be related somehow, regardless of how she was spawned.

[atouts]

And the rest?

[ That's a (kind of) affirmative to the Rose Queen perhaps being related, but not if he's clear to tell the other supervisors. He'd rather double-check before pissing her off, even if chances are he would tell some of them anyway. ]

[lordofthering]

[That is what she'd meant, but she snaps out of a daze enough to clarify:]

Yes, yes, go ahead. There's no harm to additional caution...

[atouts]

[ Childermass gives her a nod. ]

Alright. I will go see to that now.

[ And with that settled, he'll turn to leave the old-fashioned way (also known as walking out of the tent instead of turning into a damn crow). ]
