[ It's a bit after her radio announcement detailing the new divisions and for once via radio over, you know, showing up as an annoying bird to crow at her. ]
Ringmaster, if you have a moment, I would like to discuss a matter of workspace with you.
[ Welcome to the wonderful world of dull administrative work, RM. ]
Acquisitions before never needed any single location to gather, but with the addition of research, I was hoping I could take over one of the tents or some other building to use as a single workspace.
[ Yep, no magical problems, no sudden fae incursions, just... that. ]
Or the mirror maze if I wanted to make their lives a little more interesting... [ It's just something he muses on aloud, but in the end, ] However, a tent should do just fine. Thank you, Ringmaster.
Ignatius requests to be taken along on our excursion to Eden and mission to recover the Mirror. I told him the final decision rests with you, but that I'd ask anyway.
Well I told him I'd tell you, so I'm filling my end of the bargain. [ he grumbles, a bit under his breath. Strange...just isn't going to mention all those slightly dubious bits of the talk that RM's probably filing away under 'reasons why Strange shouldn't talk to Ignatius' (aka that whole heart business.) ]
If I had to make a guess on why he wants to go, I think he wants the mirror as a bargaining chip for himself.
I do. If I had to guess, what he wants the most is to reobtain his Heart. I don't know if he can do that with the Mirror, but he could at least offer it up as a trade.
Because it's simply asking. I made no secret that the decision would lie in your hands and I even told him that I doubted it would happen in the first place. But there's nothing harmful about asking a question.
[ There's a longer pause than normal like Strange is biting back the urge to yell something and is actually taking Ignatius's advice to take a fuckin chill pill. When he speaks again, his tone is a bit strained. ]
Each time we've been on a world without magic, I've hated it. I've made no secret that I've loathed both the Matrix and the Mainframe and if we stop at another world without magic, I'll probably loathe it as well. But at least I knew that when I returned to the carnival, I'd be able to do my magic again. If I were in his place and I had the essence of my magic removed from me while still being surrounded by magic itself, I doubt I'd be able to take it half as well as Ignatius currently is.
I offered to get his Heart because I let my emotions get the better of me.
[ okay raise your hands, who saw this coming. hint: not Strange. But who's also kind of okay with this? also Strange ]
It does make sense, [ he admits. ] Ignatius could be a useful ally against Lilith if the situation calls for it. If we suspect that he'll take the Mirror for himself, then we can attempt to correct for that as needed. And besides, what better way to show him that there's something different about us than trusting him a bit?
[ a small paaaause before ] Of course, I can't be completely tactical or impartial about this. After all, he did say he'd undo my contract if taken along.
He'll just have to accept that, if he's going to come along, he'll have to swear a few oaths, as well. Particular in regards to assuring a lack of sabotage.
But I can take care of that part. I'll speak to him myself. Provided we can reach a compromise, I'm sure I can find a place for him.
[ Strange sounds a mixture of pleased and relieved about this entire thing. ]
I understand that you might not want my help, [ what with that whole 'dude why do you adore him' thing ] but if there's any way I can help with negotiating this compromise or in Eden itself, simply tell me.
[Yuya's going to try and find the Ringmaster in person around her trailer, but if that fails he'll call her up on the radio. There's something he needs to do, now that the aftermath of Eden is (mostly) settled.]
I wanted to talk about Ignatius. [There's a pause, before he decides to just go straight to he point.] I know we have him here like... kind of a prisoner? But I don't think we have to keep him on that island and away from everyone. He doesn't like it.
I... think it'd be okay to let him walk around the carnival? He said he hates the idleness, and it's probably kind of lonely.
[He scratches his cheek. That second part was more his assessment, but Ignatius doesn't come across to him as a loner.] I talked to him in Eden. He admitted that he wanted to go because he was hoping the Summer Court would show up, since they know about the mirror. I asked him what he'd tell them, if they'd send more people after us. He said he didn't know, but that he wasn't the one sending anyone. So--I don't think he hates us personally?
I think he could really understand where we're coming from, if he got to know us! And if we want him to trust us enough to listen, I think we have to trust him, too. [He lets out a breath, because this is turning into a speech but he wants to make a clear point.]
